Terms and conditions

Short, and worth reading for one section in particular: your boards are stored only in your own browser, which means they can be lost in ways nobody can undo. Everything else here is the ordinary small print.

Who this is between

These terms are between you and the operator of simplekanbanboard.com, referred to below as "we" and "us". Using the site means you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the site — there is no account to close and nothing to cancel, so closing the tab is enough.

What you are getting

A kanban board that runs entirely in your browser, free of charge, with no account, no trial and no paid tier. There is no fee now and no upgrade being held back for later.

"Free" here does not mean a free plan on somebody's server that could be withdrawn: there is no server holding your work, so there is no plan to downgrade you from. You may use the board for personal work, for study, and for commercial work, without asking.

Your boards are yours

Everything you type into a board belongs to you. We claim no licence over it and no rights in it, and we could not do anything with it in any case, because it is never sent to us. The files you export — the PNG, the PDF, the CSV, the JSON, the Markdown — are yours to use for anything at all, including commercially, with no attribution required.

Data loss — read this one

Your boards live in your browser's local storage on this device. That has real advantages, which is the whole point of the site, and one real cost: a board can be destroyed without warning, and nobody can recover it, including us. There is no backup on a server, because there is no server.

Boards are lost when:

  • You clear cookies and site data, or use a "clear browsing data" option that includes this site.
  • You used a private or incognito window — that storage is discarded when the window closes, every time, by design.
  • The browser evicts the storage on its own. Browsers do this under storage pressure, and some clear it automatically for sites you have not visited in a while.
  • A cleaner or privacy utility wipes site data, or an extension does it on a schedule you have forgotten about.
  • You switch browser, switch device, reset the device, or the device is lost or stops working.

The remedy is one click and it is yours to take: Export → All boards (JSON) saves everything to a file you control, and importing it puts it all back. Keeping that backup is your responsibility, not ours. Do not use this site as the only record of anything you cannot afford to lose.

Acceptable use

Use the tool for whatever you like, within the law. You must not use the site to do anything unlawful, attempt to disrupt or overload the site or the hosting it runs on, or try to gain access to systems you have no right to. You must not republish the site itself as your own service. Using the board for your own work, including client work and work you are paid for, is entirely fine and needs no permission.

Availability

The site is provided as it is, with no promise that it will be available at any particular time, and it may be changed, restructured or discontinued without notice. Two things soften that: a page already open in your browser keeps working even if the site goes away mid-session, and any file you have exported keeps working forever, because a PDF, a CSV or a JSON file does not need this site to exist in order to open.

No warranty

The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that your stored boards will persist for any period of time.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, loss of profit or loss of business arising out of or connected with your use of the site — including, specifically, the loss of a board stored in your browser. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Where this site links somewhere else, that link is for information only. We do not control those sites, are not responsible for their content, and linking to one is not an endorsement of it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. This does not remove any consumer protection you have under the law of the country you live in.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated. When they are, the date at the top of the page changes. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms — there is no account, so that is the only mechanism available.
